The road to Namibia
from Victoria falls to the Namibian borders isn’t that far, around a couple of hundered Km’s
but the road condition is crazy.
it took 5 hours where it should have been just a couple
this photo is the first pothole and the best bit of the entire road, and from there on it was a motorcross track with odd bits of tarmac, with truck and buses stuck or swerving violently in front of us. it was dead flat but the speeds where down to 40km/h max, what a pain in the arse road.
Zambian roads are bad but this was epic.
After a very simple border crossing Namibia was change we stayed on a campsite next to the Zambezi just inside Namibia so we could stock up on good food in the border town and get a SIM card.
The cleanliness and organization stepped up a lot in Namibia, but the sense of humour in the locals dropped to zero, the Zambians were all very cheerful, the Namibians not so much, maybe just a border town thing.
The next day we decided to miss all the National parks at the top of Namibia, we are all Hippo’d out and head for Etosha national park .
half way we stayed at a random campsite next to a river
So what are the campsite like in Namibia?, well,
This is one pitch,
next to the river
sunset views
space for 4 cars
space for 4 tents
Table & chairs outside
Table and chairs under thatched roof for sun shade
sinks with warm water
barbecue with free wood
private toilet
private shower
full-size fridge freezer with cold water dispenser
and…
a set of steps down to a jetty to launch boats from
how much a night I hear you ask ???
20£ , yes 20£ twenty pounds, for 40£ in Wales you can just about get your car on a wet miserable grass pitch.
the next days we had to leave for the Etosha National park in North Namibia, could have stayed here a week easily.
