Next…the Fish river canyon, the second biggest canyon after the err…I can’t remember which is the biggest canyon but it’s very grand I am sure.
We headed south and the roads are long straight and boring the terrain is vast but getting a little tedious after a few thousand Km,s. I have a surprise for Milly, right by the reservoir that we were going to wild camp at was a Gin distillery,
we stopped and noticed a tourist bus, it was 40 old aged German women on tour inside was bustling. this part of Namibia is really touristy.
The distillery makes Gin, Gin liquor, and white wine, they don’t have Junipers, they have to import them!!! but what they do is flavour the gin with the devil’s claw, a vicious plant that grows tubas like potatoes , the local tribes used for medicine, the gin it produces is very bitter, and then they add some coffee beans just to add some more bitter taste. the wine faired no better, but the liquor got the thumbs up.
we trundled off to camp up. Next to the reservoir was secluded and had a great sunset/sunrise potential.
I remembered something on iOverlander about the small holes in the ground and checked it up..yep Scorpion territory with a vengeance, there were hundreds of them, so that was a night we used the Doggers internal viewing platform, not a night for a campfire.
just before the canyon is a fuel station/restaurant with campsite…with yes .. it’s getting to be a Namibian theme. old rusty cars.
Fish river canyon was impressive, but Milly doesn’t like the edges of cliffs, so I had to take these pictures just to help her with her vertigo.
